Bio
TRACEY ATKINSON (b. 1976) was born in North Carolina and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Tracey Atkinson received her BFA from Pratt Institute, where she earned the Pratt Circle Award for Academic Achievement and the Certificate of Excellence Award for Outstanding Merit in Illustration. Tracey Atkinson received her MA from Teachers College, Columbia University.
The artist believes that a successful work of art engages and communicates with the viewer. She is very interested in human emotion, color, symbolism, typography, and works on paper as an important vehicle for personal expression. Her current work is about experimenting and trying to do more than illustrate a story. She is working towards sharing a rawness or vulnerability that is sometimes painful but very human. Prior experiences led her to make work that was mainly internal, but she is now working to create artwork that reflects more on the life of others as experienced by her.
