Artworks that I have created, come from my experiences, my thoughts, and my understanding of the world around me. Each painting, illustration, or book page captures the vulnerability and the emotion that catches each of us off guard at times while often combining elements of beauty with elements of foreboding. A sort of “calm before the storm”. The use of dark, vibrant colors along with authentic facial expressions and body language are important in establishing mood.
The choice of media contribute to the feeling or idea to be expressed. Oil paint is the medium chosen for painting, it allows for strong, rich colors and value while maintaining a sense of realism. The use of ink pen is chosen to create a raw, sharpness of line and gesture that feels very personal and yet distant.
